I have three awesome CC Creams I’ve been testing out and wanted to share with you my comparison! The CC Creams are by Pur Minerals, Smashbox, and Clinique. All three are fantastic, but through reading my review you should be able to choose the best option for yourself! I tested out the shade “light” in all three brands.
If you’re like me, the first question that comes to mind is what’s the difference between a BB cream and a CC cream? Is this just a new fad? When’s the DD cream going to come out? (haha- I’ve heard that some cosmetics brands already have a DD cream out! Not sure what that one stands for yet.)
But to answer the other questions… here’s a comparison snapshot between BB’s and CC’s.
BB cream= Beauty Balm, Blemish Balm, Blemish Base
- Originally created in Asia as a treatment for skin post-laser surgery.
- Provides sheer coverage
- Contains highly concentrated amounts of active skincare ingredients, including SPF.
- Can be paired with a foundation/powder for more coverage.
CC Cream= Color Correct, Color Care, Complexion Correct
- First developed in Korea to address discoloration.
- Lighter in texture and more natural in coverage than BB creams.
- Can provide a more even texture to skin (color correcting) because they have a bit more coverage than a BB cream.
Now that that’s out of the way, I have three of the most popular brands of CC cream on the market right now to show you!
Pur Minerals CC Cream:
SPF 40 foundation and primer
Clarifying control cream
Pur has the longest lasting CC cream that I tried and it was the lightest in shade. I felt that it had a super long staying power, probably due to the fact that there is a built in primer. I love the fact that it has SPF 40, which was the highest SPF of all the CC creams I tried. Wearing this, I definitely felt like my complexion looked brighter. The only thing I would change is that it could have been a little more hydrating. It was the most drying of the three I tried, but it was an easy fix by layering a great moisturizer underneath. The plus side is that it leaves skin with a pretty matte finish, which is great for people who have a little oil going on.
Left to Right- Pur, Smashbox, Clinique
Smashbox CC cream:
- SPF 30 primes, perfects, protects, moisturizes, and controls oil
- Visibly fades existing sun spots, post acne marks, and dark spots.
- Evens skin tone with a tinted formula
- 5 shades available
I was pretty impressed with the range of shades available in this CC cream. Normally, if there are only a few shades to pick from, I’m always the lightest (their lightest option is fair). But I was able to go for the second lightest in this case (light) and with a tan going I would’ve opted for light/medium. I can’t vouch for whether this CC cream fades existing sun spots, post acne marks or dark spots because I’ve done a great job of staying out of the sun and don’t have much of a tan going. The only time I get dark spots and sun spots is from laying out. But I can tell you that it certainly controls oil! I definitely think the Smashbox CC cream felt light on my skin, but covered all my imperfections well.
Clinique CC Cream:
- Sheer, moderate coverage
- Corrects redness, dullness, sallowness
- Oil-free hydration and SPF 30
- 6 shades to choose from
This was definitely the most hydrating choice that I tried, and also the most sheer. I love how many shades there are to choose from- once again, I am the shade Light. Due to the fact that my skin can’t get enough moisture in the summer, I reach for Clinique’s CC cream the most often. I like a tad more coverage than it provides, so I find myself setting this with a powder most days. I really love the formula, but if you’re looking for a little extra coverage, this is not it. The texture of the Clinique CC cream is a bit different than the others- almost whipped in nature. It’s very light and I love that it has some of the Moisture Surge ingredients in it- that is one of my all time favorite moisturizers and a must have for summer.
All in all, I think every person could find a choice of CC cream in one of these three! I hope my review was helpful. Have you tried any of these? Which one appeals to you the most?
*The Clinique CC cream was purchased by me, and the other two were sent to me for review. Opinions are honest and my own.
