I have the most exciting palette to share with you today! This is the Technicolor palette by Make up For Ever. I love their brand, and this palette is no exception. This palette combines eight classic neutrals and statement colors all in one palette. I love the combination of brights and neutrals, especially since they’re highly pigmented and contain this season’s hottest colors. Also, I think it’s fun that this palette is inspired by the 1930s cinematic transition from black-and-white motion picture to color imagery. I can understand the inspiration, because these colors really pack some punch, much like going from black-and-white to color tv must have back in the day!
I really like how you can use this palette for a variety of looks. I wanted to show you two different looks with the palette. The first I’ll show you is one combining many of the colors all in the same look. I used brown in the crease, yellow in the inner corner, green on the inner lid and underneath as liner, and blue on the outer corner. I could’ve used a liner too, but decided to put the focus on the shadow colors.
Below, you’ll see the colors swatched from left to right as they appear in the palette.
Black, Yellow, Apple Green, Turquoise, Lilac, White, Espresso, Yellow Beige
(yellow and yellow beige are both a slightly shimmery shade, the rest are matte)
I thought this would be another good look to create with this palette because it’s more natural, yet it still has a pop of color. As you can see, I’ve only used the neutral colors in the palette, plus a teensy bit of blue in the outer corner. I like the way it matches my blue shirt, and makes a statement, but in a small way.
Close up! I put the brown in the crease, the yellow beige color on the rest of the corner, and the blue on the outer corner. Easy peasy!
All in all, I loved using this palette. I like that you can achieve multiple looks without straying from the palette at all. Too often, I’ll use even the NAKED palettes, and think, I really need a different color that’s not in this palette. Also, the NAKED basics palette by Urban Decay is really popular right now, and this is a great alternative to that. There are lots of neutral colors in this one too, and mostly mattes, so if you’re looking for something natural but can’t commit to something too “boring” go with this palette.
Just like all Make Up For Ever eyeshadows, these are super pigmented and last about 8 hours on the eyelid. I always wear a primer, so I can’t attest to the wear on these without.
Have you picked one of these up yet? I would love to hear what you think in the comments!
