Looking for a great fragrance for the special lady or man in your life? Let me suggest some great scents that you will love! Some of these are oldies but goodies, and others are new to me that I recently came across. Let me know if you’ve heard of any of these and if they will make your wish list this year!
For the sophisticated lady…
Arquiste is a brand that is very couture (read $$$) and very high class. I find this brand very interesting, because it is inspired by a time capsule. These fragrances were curated by an architect specializing in Historic preservation, and are meant to transport the wearer to evocative moments in history. These fragrances are available at Barney’s New York, The Webster, A’maree’s, Aedes de Venustas, La Petite Parfumerie, Saks Fifth Avenue Mexico, and a few other far away places.
Aleksandr has notes of Neroli, Violet Leaf, Fir Balsam, and Russian Leather. It is reminiscent of January in St. Petersburg, Russia when a man wear fur rides a sleigh in the snow. Fleur de Louis has is a woody floral with notes of Orange Blossom, Florentine Orris, Jasmine, and White Cedar wood. It is reminiscent of 1660s in the French-Spanish border where Louis XIV is waiting for his bride Infanta Maria Teresa. Flor y canto is an opulent white floral with notes of Mexican Tuberose, Magnolia, Plumeria and Marigold. It is reminiscent of 1440 in Tenochtitlan, Mexico during a festival of fragrances. Anima Dulces has notes of Cocoa Absolute, Mexican Vanilla, Cinnamon, and Chili infusion. It is reminiscent of 1695 in Mexico City where a group of nuns is preparing cocoa and chilies. Infanta en flor is a floral musky amber with notes of Orange Flower Water, Spanish Leather, Cistus Resin, and Immortelle. It is reminiscent of 1660s on the Spanish-French border when Maria Teresa is offered to Louis XIV in exchange for peace between two nations.
These fragrances are just as dramatic in their stories as their scents, and prices. They range in price from $165-195 depending on the scent. I can’t imagine spending that much on a perfume, but hey that’s just me. I also don’t own a Coach purse or shop at Sak’s on Fifth Avenue. Alexsandr smells like bananas to me, Fleur de Louis smells like a bunch of old ladies standing together in an elevator. Flor y canto is very nice and floral, but maybe a little too strong for every day- it literally reminds me of a flower shop, but I guess that’s appropriate since it’s supposed to be after a festival of fragrances and every note in the bottle of perfume is a floral. Cocoa and chilis sounds like a heinous combination of foods, and as such, I can’t handle the fragrance. It jives wrong in my nose. Anima Dulces is a combination of a few very different scents that should never touch each other in my opinion. Infanta en flor is probably the best one of the bunch. It’s very floral but not so much that I’m going to be sick smelling it. I really like it, then remember that it’s named after a woman being given as a barter to end a war, and then I feel bad.
These are very potent and one dab will do ya. I see these being a good gift for a sophisticated lady with expensive taste. My two favorite were Infanta en flor and Flor y canto. If you love flowers, you will love these fragrances. If you hate floral scents, these will make you sick. They are very very floral.
For the Man in Your Life…
Weird way to hold a cologne bottle, I know, but I just wanted to show you how huge this is. Guess Seductive is a super yummy scent that I think any guy will love. Here are the notes:
This is a really great scent. My husband is very picky and he really likes it. He has three colognes total and has been using this non stop since he got it. It’s a little bit musky and a lot seductive.
For the Younger Woman…
I love Tocca’s perfume bottles…they have such an old world feel and are very collectible. I love the idea of saving the bottles until they are empty and using them as a place to store earring backs or marbles, or little knick knacks. They look adorable on a vanity!
Violette is a very fresh smelling fragrance. It’s very floral, but not in a way that’s overpowering. This would make a great scent for a job interview because it’s not too sweet. I smell mostly violets with maybe a touch of the creamy cedarwood. Normally, floral perfumes jive wrong with my skin, but this smells good on me. I love it! Giulietta is also floral and a very yummy fragrance. The top note that I smell in this is green apple and a lingering scent of the pink tulips. It is very nice and would make a great every day perfume. Graciella is a wonderful fragrance that is a little less floral than the others. I love that this one is named after Grace Kelly! Such an elegant perfume!
I recommend Tocca highly as I have had many of their fragrances. The gift set I am recommending with the 3 fragrances can be purchased HERE for $45. It’s also worth noting that their customer service is unparalleled. I received my package in the mail within 2 business days of agreeing to review their products and when a bottle from the collection arrived broken, they sent me a full size replacement, even though the bottles in the set are small. A+ to Tocca!
